What is Lent?
Lent is a sacred season in the Christian calendar, spanning 40 days and culminating in the celebration of Jesus' resurrection on Easter Sunday. This period invites us to pause, reflect, and draw closer to God by remembering the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice, we are redeemed, and through His resurrection, we have victory over sin and death. Lent is a time to prepare our hearts for this truth, embracing the depth of God’s love for us and the hope it brings to our lives.
Rooted in the example of Jesus' 40 days of fasting and prayer in the wilderness, Lent is often marked by practices of fasting, prayer, and giving. These spiritual disciplines are not merely rituals but are opportunities for us to realign our hearts with God’s purpose. Whether it's giving up something that distracts us or taking on a new practice to grow in our faith, Lent is about creating space for God to move in our lives. It reminds us that our redemption was bought at a great cost and encourages us to live lives of gratitude and devotion in response.
As we journey through Lent, we are reminded not only of Jesus' sacrifice but also of the victory that is ours because of His resurrection. The cross was not the end of the story—it was the beginning of a new covenant, a new hope, and a new life for all who believe in Him. This season points us to the assurance that no matter the trials we face, we have victory in Jesus. Lent is an invitation to walk in the light of this truth and to share it with others through acts of love, service, and compassion.
At Living Rock Church, we embrace the season of Lent as a time to draw nearer to God and to one another. Together, we reflect on the sacrifice of Christ, rejoice in His victory, and renew our hope in His promises. We invite you to join us in this journey, as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the joy and triumph of Resurrection Sunday.

As we approach the culmination of the Lenten season, we invite you to join us in a dedicated time of prayer and fasting, beginning at 6 PM on Palm Sunday and concluding at 6 PM on Good Friday. This is a sacred opportunity to set aside distractions and draw closer to Christ, preparing our hearts for the remembrance of His sacrifice and the celebration of His victory.
Fasting is a biblical practice that helps us realign our focus on God. While many choose to fast from food, fasting can also mean stepping away from anything that may be a distraction—social media, entertainment, unnecessary busyness, or anything that tends to take our attention away from seeking the Lord. The goal is not just to give something up, but to use that time and energy to seek God more intentionally through prayer, worship, and Scripture.
During this time, we encourage you to listen for God’s voice, reflect on the incredible love displayed through Christ’s sacrifice, and prepare your heart for the hope and renewal that comes through His resurrection. Whether you choose to fast in part or in full, we invite you to join us in this time of spiritual renewal, trusting that God will meet us as we seek Him.
